  • a retired vestal virgin sharing stories of her years of service in the Temple of Vesta
  • a gladiator whose skill in the arena has thus far kept him from inevitable death
  • a friendly worker tending counter at the local thermopolium (ancient fast-food restaurant) who loves to share local gossip
  • a senator's wife promoting her husband and the state of politics in the empire
