Core Competencies

The Museum has expertise and provides programming in five main areas. Our exhibitions, IMAX films, lectures, classes, and programs pertain to one or more of the following core competencies:

Professional Credentials

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has been awarded the highest honor a museum can receive -- accreditation by the American Association of Museums. Accreditation certifies that a museum operates according to standards set forth by the museum profession, manages its collections responsibly, and provides quality service to the public. Of the more than 16,000 museums nationwide, only some 750 are accredited. Additionally, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science is a Smithsonian Institution Affiliate providing access to Smithsonian resources, including its 136 million-object collections, scholarships, traveling exhibitions, and membership benefits. This affiliation also gives the Museum and the Smithsonian Institution the opportunity to pursue high level collaborations around Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM), climate change, the natural world and digital initiatives.
