Permanent Road Closure

The stretch of City Park Road between Montview and 17th Avenue has been permanently closed by Denver Parks and Recreation. This stretch of road will be used for construction vehicles through summer 2013 during the construction of the Museum's new wing. It will then be demolished and re-landscaped in summer 2013, creating a large meadow in the southeast corner of City Park. Denver Parks and Recreation is working in partnership with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science to coordinate and communicate this change.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why did the road close? The road closure is part of the Denver Parks and Recreation City Park Master Plan, which moves vehicle traffic to the perimeter of the park to create more open space and increase safety for park users. The timing coincides with preparation by the Denver Museum of Nature & Science to build its new wing on to the south side of the Museum.
  • What about cyclists and pedestrians? Denver Parks and Recreation is coordinating and communicating detours for cyclists and pedestrians.
