This internship is offered by the Department of Anthropology to
currently enrolled, undergraduate or graduate-level students of
Native American descent. Priority is given to students
interested in anthropology or archaeology. The intern will
participate in all aspects of museum-based science activities,
including curatorial research and collections management
activities. They may also participate in fieldwork, should the need
arise. Daily duties will vary by project, but the candidate can
expect to assist curators and collections managers in artifact
inventory, processing, movement, cataloguing, data entry and
analysis. Fieldwork may consist of site survey and test
excavations. The intern will answer directly to either one of the
Curators of Archaeology, the Curator of Anthropology, or the
Anthropology Collections Manager, depending on the assignments. The
possibility remains for small-scale research projects tailored to
the intern's personal interests. Anthropology and/or Archaeology
experience preferred.
Intern will receive payment to help offset expenses for a 10 week
internship; scheduling is flexible, although a summer schedule is
preferred. Intern will submit a written report of activities
conducted at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science at the end
of the term.
The 2012 Native American Internship program is now
closed for applications. Please check back in February 2013 for
information about next year's program and how to
