Anthropology Rehousing Collections Assistant

Volunteers will assist the Anthropology Department with improving the environmental conditions of artifacts in storage by moving and rehousing the collections. Applicants will participate in a three hour training to learn in a hands-on manner what the volunteer position will entail. The training provides the department with a better sense of your skills and how they will fit, as well as an opportunity for you to experience the kind of work we are looking for and ensure it is a good fit for you. Please note: Anthropology will not be hosting a training until Fall 2017.

Required Skills

  • Experience working with collections
  • Experience or education related to conservation and/or anthropology
  • Solid ability to think logically, methodically, and intuitively
  • Solid familiarity with the Anthropology Department
  • Solid communication skills
  • Strong ability to multitask
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Solid digital photography skills
  • Experience with various computer programs, including Excel
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from supervisor
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to use a sewing machine
  • Ability to use camera
  • Ability to use power drills, knives, and hand tools

Mandatory training on the mount making must be attended by all participants.

Minimum one shift per week. Shifts available: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.  or 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Minimum Age Requirement
Available to individual applicants 18 years of age or older.
