Arachnology Collections Assistant

Our new Avenir Collections Center has its own collections space and workshop for our Arachnology Collections and it houses 200,000 specimen lots.  Here, volunteers provide support in the preservation of specimens, creating archival data labels, determining latitude and longitude of collecting locales, and identifying specimens to species.  Successful volunteers should be able to commit to a consistent schedule and at least one year of volunteering and be able to work successfully both on a team and in directed independent tasks.

Required Skills

  •     Solid attention to detail
  •     Willingness to follow written instructions
  •     Basic knowledge of arachnids (spiders and their relatives)


Training

Must have completed the Colorado Spider Survey Workshop or a Spider Biology course. Extensive on-the-job training will be provided by the curator. Below is information about the next Colorado Spider Training.

Schedule
Shifts available Tuesday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Volunteers are required to work one four hour shift per week and with a minimum commitment of 20 shifts per year.

Minimum Age Requirement
Available to individual applicants 18 years of age or older.
