Discovery Zone Facilitator

If you’ve never grown up then this is the place for you! Help our younger visitors explore the world of science through experiments, crafts, and games. Dissect owl pellets, make slime, explore the brain, blow bubbles, put on an animal puppet show, play mancala or a maraca, discover air pressure in a vacuum chamber, and much more.

Skills and Abilities: 
Friendly, outgoing, and great with kids

Training: 
Hands-on, interactive group training sessions (9-12 hours in 1 year), on-the-job training

Schedule: 
One three and a half -hour shift (9:45 a.m.–1:15 p.m. or 12:45 a.m.–4:15 p.m.) available Monday through Sunday, shift lengths vary for family groups

Minimum Commitment: 
One year

Age Requirement:  
Available to individual applicants 14 and older; family groups

Please remember that volunteer placement is a selective process and not all applicants are accepted into the program. The Museum reserves the right to place volunteers in the area staff feels is best suited to the applicant’s skills and the needs of the Museum. A minimum commitment of one year is required for all volunteer positions.

Family Volunteers

More than 150 Museum volunteers are members of a family group volunteering together, making a critical contribution to the volunteer corps. Children six through 13 are welcome to volunteer as members of a family group, with a responsible adult who participates as a volunteer. Separate applications should be submitted for each individual, including the children. Adults 18 and older, please complete the  Adult Volunteer Application (PDF | 627KB). Youth between the ages of 6-13, please complete the Youth Volunteer Application (PDF | 627KB).

Teen applicants must be between the ages of 14-17. Applicants must:

  • Submit a Youth Volunteer Application (PDF | 627KB)
  • Parent or Guardian must complete and sign the release of liability portion of the application and co-sign the application
  • Attach a short essay (Essay topic: Why do you think volunteering is important and why do you want to volunteer at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science?)
