If you are interested in volunteering on-the-floor with guests in the Discovery Zone, Expedition Health, Prehistoric Journey, Temporary Exhibits, Space Odyssey, or the Museum Ambassador Program, the deadline to submit an application is August 31, 2016 to be considered for placement in our Volunteer Program for 2016. We will continue to accept applications after August 31, 2016 and you will be contacted in early 2017 with information about the next steps in the application process.
Museum Galaxy Guides facilitate fun and enriching space science activities in Space Odyssey, the Museum’s permanent, award-winning space science exhibition. Museum Galaxy Guides work as a team to deliver an out-of-this world educational experience for our guests through innovative, interactive live performances, demonstrations and one-on-one conversations with visitors. The Space Odyssey philosophy is one that promotes curiosity and continued learning experiences for people of all ages.
Enthusiasm for space science, strong desire to work with the public, good communication skills, ability to work on a team and independently, flexibility, passion for learning and a positive attitude are essential. No formal background in space science is necessary.
On-the-job training, occasional evening training, independent study and content-related lectures.
Applicants must be able to volunteer for a minimum of 20 shifts within one year. The regular shift times are 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 12:30 - 5 p.m, Monday - Sunday. The scheduling of shift times will take place on a case-by-case basis pending acceptance into the Museum's volunteer program.
Individuals must be at least 14 years of age to volunteer. Family groups with children ages 6 and up are also welcome to apply.
