Stargazing on the Gunnison River

Experience a summer delight far from the city lights in southern Colorado, with Museum astronomer Dimitri Klebe. During this leisurely 31-mile trip, you’ll paddle beside high walls of beautiful red sandstone and shale, deposited during the age of the dinosaurs, and enjoy spectacular sky watching at night during the Perseid meteor showers. The trip includes a layover day in Dominguez Canyon for hiking and relaxation, featuring a 40-foot waterfall, secluded swimming holes, and numerous ancient Indian petroglyphs. Ideal for beginning and intermediate canoeists, with fun Class 1+ rapids along the way.
