SCFD Community Free Day Celebrating Día del Niño

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is partnering with the Mexican Cultural Center to honor all children on this SCFD Community Free Day. In addition to FREE general admission for all visitors, the celebration will include special performances, music, and activities for the entire family.

Parking for Día del Niño: Limited free parking is available at the Museum, therefore alternative transportation is recommended. Additional free parking will be available at East High School, 1600 City Park Esplanade, and Manual High School, 1700 E. 28th Ave. Free shuttle buses will run throughout the day between the Museum and the high schools from 9:30am to 5:30pm.

The Museum’s Dia del Nino SCFD Community Free Day is part of a weekend-long celebration. Visit these organization’s websites to find out about special programs and discounts.

Los Chinelos

Alliance Française de Denver

Join Alliance Française de Denver for a very special story time and activities in Discovery Zone on Level 2! Listen to stories in French and learn a few French words. Then stay to have fun with a hands-on French language activities in our Science Kitchen. 10am to 12pm in Discovery Zone.



ARCINDA, the Arts and Cultures of Indonesia, will perform with the Javanese gamelan, a traditional Indonesian brass xylophone percussion ensemble. Come and see these gorgeous instruments and talented dancers perform the Mask Dance and the Dance of the Giant Bird Eagle. After the performance, you can try playing the instruments yourself!
2pm and 4pm in the Science Atrium.


Koffi Togo Vibe

Koffi Togo is a community of musicians, artists and instructors who want to share their love of music and movement with you! Come learn how to play Djembes (one of the most popular West African drums), Koras (traditional West African Harp-like instruments), Balafons (traditional West African Xylophones) and other percussion instruments like shakers and cowbells. Unlike the usual “coffee to go,” the natural boost that Koffi Togo provides will lift both your spirits and your energy, leaving you inspired and rejuvenated!

Fiesta Colorado

Fiesta Colorado, the Premier Hispanic Dance Company in Colorado presents Bailes de la Primavera by Los Ninos de Fiesta Colorado - directed by Jeanette Trujillo-Lucero.  The danzantes will perform the folk dances that represent the colors of springtime. They celebrate the colorful flowers and new life that enters the world at this time of year. The dance reflects the energetic carnival-like music with the colorful swirling skirts, loud footwork and flirtatious, fun movement.

Cosmic Circle Puppets

Puppets can transport audiences to far away lands, where children experience delightful stories from different cultures.  Hear the story of "Momotaro, The Little Peach Boy" from Japan with the Cosmic Circle Puppets. Then make your own puppet in a workshop that follows.

Petting Zoo

Visit some of your favorite barnyard critters in this hands-on petting zoo from Wishing Star Farms. You can meet a will be a llama, a mini pony, mini donkey, bunny, 2 sheep and 2 goats

Swallow Hill Instrument Petting Zoo

Swallow Hill Music is here with their Instrument Petting Zoo! They are providing a hands-on set-up of instruments for kids and adults led by our knowledgeable staff of instrument petting zookeepers. The entire family can try out ukuleles, hand drums, guitars, mandolins, banjos, fiddles, mini-pianos and more. They provide the instruments and you provide the curiosity.
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Level 2 near the coffee cart


RAFT Colorado

RAFT Colorado will be helping kids of all ages  to build pinwheels and kites using recycled materials you can find in your own home. RAFT connects thousands of Colorado teachers with inspiration and affordable resources to help students work, think, innovate and learn creatively.

Denver Preschool Program

We all want to be something special when we grow up! Join the Denver Preschool Program for a "When I Grow Up" dress-up/photo area.  They’ll bring in several costumes that relate to professions (i.e. firefighter, doctor, pilot) which the kids can dress up in and get their pictures taken.

Scavengery Hunt

Did you know there are special elves hidden all over the Musuem? Have you ever tried to find all of the Colorado State symbols in our dioramas? You can participate in 4 different self-guided scavenger hunts that will take you all over the Musuem. 11 a.m. on the Level 2 Bridge, near the escalators


Denver Public Schools Student Showcase

DPS Students Got Talent!  Come enjoy a variety of performances in this Student Showcase, featuring kids from 1st grade through high school. 
10 a.m.–4 p.m. in the South East Atrium

Grupo Huitzilopotchli is a traditional Mexica (Aztec) dance group under the direction of Captain Raul Chavez, who immigrated to Denver 45 years ago to bring the dance to Colorado. Bridging the gap between Mexican youth and Chicano/Colorado youth, this group has demonstrated for the past forty years how the arts can heal through cultural inclusivity and respect for one another. In 2016 they won the Denver Mayor's Award For Excellence in the Arts.  Enjoy Grupo Huitzilopotchli at 10am in the Science Atrium.
