A young woman volunteering with the Anthropology collectionsAt 1,600 people, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science has the largest active volunteer corps among natural history museums in the country. Volunteers fill almost every type of position and work in almost every department of the Museum.

They range in age from six to 94 and come to the Museum for the opportunity to learn while doing something unique and worthwhile. Volunteers receive free admission to the Museum, IMAX, and Gates Planetarium, discounts on food, membership, and merchandise, and special honors at annual recognition events.

We couldn’t open our doors and provide visitors with a high-quality experience without the enthusiastic commitment of our volunteers.

Volunteer Listings

Expedition Health Volunteer
The Museum will need volunteers to assist in Expedition Health exhibits and labs, opening to the public in Spring 2009. Volunteers will receive in-depth training and enjoy all the benefits of being a Museum volunteer. Information sessions will be held in Fall 2008. Conchology Collections Assistant
Assist the Zoology Department by providing support with timely cataloging and databasing of their unique shell collections.

Discovery Zone Facilitator
If you’ve never grown up then this is the place for you! Help our younger visitors explore the world of science through experiments, crafts, and games.

Gallery Cart Facilitator
Join one of our Gallery Cart Programs and explore Anthropology, Geology, and/or Zoology with our visitors.

Conservation Archives Assistant
Assist the Conservation Department with maintenance of digital and physical files.

Youth & Teacher Programs Office Assistant
Assist the Youth and Teacher Programs department in supporting school tours-classes-labs, teacher’s workshops, camp-ins, outreach, distance learning, after school science quest program (ASSQ) and children’s workshops.

Evaluation Assistant
If you are inquisitive by nature, curious about human behavior, or see yourself as an amateur detective, this volunteer opportunity might be the one for you!

Catering Special Events
Assist the Catering Department with various Museum events.

Children’s Workshops Teen Assistant
The Education Department is looking for teens for this summer’s children’s workshops to provide educational experiences to children.

Museum Galaxy Guide
Museum galaxy guides facilitate hands-on space science activities and demonstrations for the public.

Prehistoric Journey Exhibit Interpreter
Enhance the visitor's experience in Prehistoric Journey as they travel through time.

Visitor Services Specialist
This is an up-front, personal, and fun volunteer job.

Volunteer Mount Fabricator
Improve environmental conditions to safeguard 930 taxidermy bird mounts in storage at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

Volunteer Security Assistant
The Museum’s Security Department is looking for volunteers to assist the department personnel in ensuring that visitors have a safe and fun Museum experience.

Please remember that volunteer placement is a selective process and not all applicants are accepted into the program. The Museum reserves the right to place volunteers in the area staff feel is best suited to the applicant’s skills and the needs of the Museum.

Child & Family Volunteers

More than 150 Museum volunteers are members of a family group volunteering together, making a critical contribution to the volunteer corps. Children six through 12 are welcome to volunteer as members of a family group, with a responsible adult who participates as a volunteer. Separate applications should be submitted for each individual, including the children.
