Geology on the Green River

Paddle a 60-mile section of the Green River from Crystal Geyser to Mineral Bottom, just north of Canyonlands National Park with Museum research associate and geologist Bob Raynolds, PhD. This spectacular section of the river is part of the longest stretch of quiet wilderness water in the western United States. The twisting, looping river cuts through colorful red rock canyon walls hundreds of feet high. Vast side systems and water channels branch out in all directions inviting exploration and hiking, during which you will see ancient Fremont Indian petroglyphs etched in the canyon walls. Full of western history, this area was first documented by John Wesley Powell in 1869.
