The Arctic in the far north and Antarctica down south may seem remote and distant from Colorado where most of us live. But these locales are a crucial part of the entire Earth system: What we do in Colorado, emitting carbon dioxide and helping to heat the planet, affects the North and South Poles. In turn, changes in the Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets impact weather and climate everywhere on Earth, and the poles are changing faster than anywhere else on our entire world. Understanding the poles helps us make wise decisions about building a sustainable future for our species and our civilization.

Polar-Palooza is a live program featuring high-energy public presentations of adventure and science told by a charismatic “cast of characters” (real scientists). The scientists will use high-definition video and authentic props—such a 2,000- year-old piece of ice core or a caribou parka—to bring polar research to life. Students will have the opportunity to interact with the ice researchers, geologists, oceanographers, climate scientists, biologists, and Arctic residents and ask questions during this live program.
