Expedition Health Volunteer Positions

Expedition Guide

Expedition Guides support the educational objectives in Expedition Health by working in teams to facilitate touch carts and a variety of health and wellness activities for the visitors.

Skills and Abilities:
• Interest in biology and/or health-related topics
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work within a team with people of all ages
Training: 
• Five training sessions of 3 hours each (15 hours)
• Hands-on training in the exhibition (3 hours)
Schedule:  
• One 4.5-hour shift per week or every other week, 8:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. or 12:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Minimum Commitment: 
• One year
Age Requirement:  
• Available to individual applicants 16 and older and family groups with children ages 12 and older

Lab Guide

Lab Guides support Expedition Health and Biology Base Camp by working with staff to provide resources needed to maintain proper exhibit functioning. They also work with staff and visiting scientists to support the Community Based Research Lab by administering research test protocols.

Skills and Abilities:
• Interest in biology and/or health-related topics
• Lab experience helpful
• Excellent customer service skills with people of all ages
• Ability to work within a team—flexible and good people skills
• Attention to detail and able to follow instructions
Training: 
• Five training sessions of 3 hours each (15 hours)
• Hands-on training in the exhibition (3 hours)
Schedule:  
• One 4.5-hour shift per week or every other week, 8:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. or 12:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Minimum Commitment: 
• One year
Age Requirement:  
• Available to individual applicants 18 and older

Visitor Services Volunteer


The Expedition Health Visitor Services Volunteer support Expedition Health and assist with way finding, greeting, queuing, and answering visitor questions to ensure visitors have a positive, fun, and informed experience.

Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work within a team with people of all ages
• Solid oral communication skills
Training:
• Two training sessions of 3 hours each (6 hours)
• Hands-on training with the exhibition (3 hours)
Schedule:
• One 4.5-hour shift per week, 8:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. or 12:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Commitment:
• April 2009 – September 2009
Age Requirement:
• Available to individual applicants 16 and older and family groups

A minimum commitment of one year is required for all volunteer positions.
