The Anton Trench Paleo-Indian Site

The Colorado Geological Survey conducted deep trenching to determine if the Anton Scarp, a 90-mile-long ridge in northeast Colorado, was caused by geological faulting.

The trench exposed a Paleo-Indian site dating ca. 10,000 radiocarbon years old. Below this buried horizon impacted camel limb bone is present indicating a possible cultural component. Test excavations and monitoring of the trench is ongoing and optical stimulated luminescence and radiocarbon dating are in progress to determine the exact age of the camel horizon.
