Stock Gifts

Gifts of stock are an easy way to make a general gift to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science or to renew your Donor Club membership. In order to realize the financial benefits of making gifts of appreciated securities, you or your brokerage firm will need to transfer the stocks directly to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

Contact the Museum’s Development Office by letter or phone to let us know the number of shares and type of stock that you are gifting. Please ask your broker to confirm your name so that we may properly acknowledge your gift.

The following options are available for your securities transfer to the Museum:

Stocks in your account at a brokerage firm: Electronic transfer is the most secure and expedient delivery process available for making your gift. Contact the Denver Museum of Nature & Science at 303.370.8251 for transfer instructions.

Stocks in your possession: Mail the unsigned stock certificates to the Museum. At the same time, in a separate envelope, send a signed stock power. Please let the Development Office know if you need a blank stock power. We request that you let us know in advance of this gift and be sure to use Certified Mail.

Stocks in the possession of the issuing corporation: Give instructions to the corporation to transfer ownership to the Museum on the corporation’s books. This may take some time, so initiate this step well in advance of the intended date of the gift.

The Museum handles the sale of the securities, processes your gift or membership, and sends you a letter of acknowledgment and tax receipt for retention in your records. You are credited with the value of the stock as of the date the transfer is completed, which depends on the method of transfer.
