Zagat Survey Rates the Denver Museum of Nature & Science the Top Family Attraction in Denver
Come See Why on the Museum’s Next Free Day, Wednesday, June 2
DENVER—May 25, 2004—The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is rated the top family attraction in Denver and number 17 among the 50 overall top-rated family attractions in the country in the first-ever Zagat Survey U.S. Family Travel Guide. The guide hits bookstores today and showcases the best family-friendly sites and attractions, restaurants and lodging in the United States as rated by 11,000 avid travelers who have experience vacationing with children. A partial list of the guide’s top-rated attractions also appears in the June issue of Parenting magazine.
Attractions received ratings for child appeal, adult appeal, public facilities and service. Those who participated in the Zagat Survey U.S. Family Travel Guide gave the Denver Museum of Nature & Science an overall rating of 26 out of 30, close to perfection in Zagat Survey terms. Visitors surveyed described the Museum as “equally as appealing to parents as to children” and mentioned the “terrific dinosaurs,” “a new top-rated planetarium,” “the wonderful Hall of Life” and “the interactive Space Odyssey” as their favorite attractions. The Museum’s 1,500-plus volunteers were also recognized as “knowledgeable guides” who help families make the most of their visit.
Parents and kids can see what the Museum is all about for free on Wednesday, June 2. Many special activities are planned for that day, including an appearance by the always-popular paleopuppeteer, “Mr. Bones,” who uses life-size dinosaur puppets to entertain children. Kids can also see what it is like to be an archaeologist digging for artifacts at the “Hidden Treasures: Inca Dig Site” on Level 2, or look for the interactive “Games of the World” cart to learn about the games children play in different cultures. In addition, families can take part in a scavenger hunt and enter a drawing for a free family membership to the Museum, or learn more about how the Museum creates its award-winning dioramas on a “Secrets of the Dioramas” tour.
Museum Free Days are open to all Colorado residents and are made possible in part by the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). Free admission applies to the Museum only. Separate admission fees to Phipps IMAX Theater and Gates Planetarium remain in effect during Free Days.
