Today I conducted more interviews with Ms. Konovalenko,
focusing on the Museum's sculptures and family archives. Rick took
photographs of a Fisherman statue and various clay
sculptures that Konovalenko used as models for the stone
sculptures. Note the rabbit -- the pencil marks indicate areas that
the artist was going to remove to complete the piece. The Accordion
Player is a clay model that Konovalenko painted to show what he
wanted the finished piece to look like; he would then find
gemstones to the color and texture of the model. Look at the
expressive face in the close-up -- he really made clay and
gemstones come to life!
