Explore Rx: A Shark's Tale: Health tips from the ocean

Rhea May

Antibiotic resistance has led common bacteria, like Staph, to become super bugs. These superbugs can contaminate surfaces and cause infections in people that touch those surfaces. Join us as we learn more about how these infections occur, how contaminated surfaces spread infection, and how a local company is helping to stop bacterial spread using lessons learned from shark skin. The presentation will show you the cool science behind a novel bio-inspired surface pattern that mimics the structure of shark skin and how this pattern reduces the contamination of harmful bacteria without the use of antibacterials.

Rhea May, PhD is a Microbial Research Associate at Sharklet Technologies, Inc.
