It wasn't long ago that we won a grant from the National Science Foundation to digitize, meaning to database and photograph, specimens of soil-living insect species of our collection. DMNS became a part of SCAN, the Southwestern Collections of Arthropods Network, and we could hire a curatorial assistant and photographer for a short time. Chris Grinter started working for SCAN in November 2012, coming from the California Academy of Sciences. Two years on, and hundreds of outstanding photographs later, Chris moves on. Next week he will start as the Insect Collection Manager at the Illinois Natural History Survey in Champaign, a collection of 7 million prepared specimens. Congratulations, Chris!
