Last Sunday, we welcomed Prof. Mazin Qumsiyeh from Bethlehem University in Palestine. He is on a busy schedule traveling through the United States, giving talks and joining discussions on the enviroment, natural history museums, and peace in the Middle East. In 2014, with the support of Bethlehem University and own funds, he founded the Palestine Museum of Natural History "to serve as a scientific oasis for catalyzing change". Here at DMNS, he inspected our exhibits, our biosafety lab, and our dry and wet collections preservation areas to gather ideas and make connections for the development of his museum. It seems to be a daunting task under the circumstances, but shows the importance of natural history museums for environmental education and study and documentation of a country's natural heritage.
