Exhibition Overview
Mammoths & Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age
February 15, 2013 - May 27, 2013 at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science
Return to the Ice Age. In Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age, you will encounter some of Earth’s most awe-inspiring mammals, roam among saber-toothed cats and giant bears, and wonder over some of the oldest human artifacts in existence. Life-size models of Ice Age behemoths, fossil tusks and skulls, touchable teeth, spear points, cave paintings, interactive displays, and videos bring this fascinating time in Earth history back to life.
Local visitors will enjoy a point of pride for Coloradans as they relive the story of the Snowmastodon Project®, the exceptional Ice Age fossil site unearthed near Snowmass Village in 2010. Visitors will have the opportunity to see a selection of fossils on display for the first time, watch a new educational video about the discovery, and hear about the science that is emerging from the study of this historic site. In addition, exhibition visitors can watch as Museum volunteers clean and prepare fossils from various Colorado dig sites.
