Check out our Anthropology Department volunteers at the Tesoro
Cultural Center's 11th Annual Indian Market Powwow on May 14 and
15. The event will be going on from 10 am to 5 pm during both days
and will be held at The Fort in Morrison, CO. Seven dedicated and
knowledgeable Anthropology volunteers will be working three tables
of Native American ethnographic items from the DMNS Education Collections between 11 am and 3
pm both days. They will be showing many different items including a
beautiful Lakota beaded cradleboard, a Miccosukee doll, a silver
and turquoise inlay amulet from Santo Domingo, and Cree beaded
mittens. Not only will the volunteers be showing the collections
but they will also be talking about different decorative techniques
such as beading, quillwork, applique, silverwork, and caribou hair
tufting. A handout describing the major techniques will be offered
to each visitor. We look forward to seeing you there!
