The arachnology collection includes nearly 28,000 vials of
identified arachnids. Arachnids include spiders, solifuges ("camel
spiders"), pseudoscorpions, daddy longlegs and other eight legged
beasties. The specimens are preserved in alcohol and, as with all
other specimens in Zoology collections, include data on where the
specimens were collected, when they were collected, by whom, and
sometimes information about the habitat in which the species are
found. Many of the specimens in the arachnology collection were
sent in by participants in the Colorado Spider Survey (http://spiders.dmns.org/default.aspx).
Many of the solifuges were collected as part of a National Science
Foundation funded project (http://www.solpugid.com).
