Databasing at full speed

On 1 November, Chris Grinter started as the Databasing Assistant in the NSF funded SCAN project (Southwest Collections of Arthropods Network), a consortium of ten Museums and Collections of the American Southwest. He worked his first months for Paula Cushing in the arachnology collection cleaning up almost 30,000 spider and solfugid data sets, which are now accessible through SCAN's Symbiota portal.

Chris is an experienced lepidopterist and photographer, specialized in micro moths. He got his BSc from the University of Illinois and has gained work experience in the Field Museum, in his home town of Chicago, and the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco. With Chris leading our databasing efforts for the SCAN project and David Bettman doing the same for our CSBR project, a new chapter for the entomology collection has begun, providing better accessibility and visibility.
