POLAR
BEAR WATCH
In mid-October, some hundreds of polar bears begin arriving in
Churchill, Manitoba, the polar bear capital of the world. The bears
are waiting for the ice to come to Hudson Bay so they can hunt for
their primary food source, seals. Normally these bears are
solitary, but this time of year is an annual social engagement for
them and the bears interact with each other. From the vantage point
of a tundra buggy, you'll view these magnificent animals in their
natural surroundings. John Demboski, PhD, curator of vertebrate
zoology, will be your expert guide. Because polar bears are
considered a species of concern internationally, opportunities to
see them are limited. Although this trip is a year way, register
now because this trip will fill up quickly.
