I enjoyed your talk tonight at the Dairy Center! I am a recent graduate from American University (BA in psychology with minors in biology & music) and currently interning with a pharmacology group in Boulder.
I am interested in learning more about your work down at the museum lab. I gathered what I could from the museum website, but would love to come visit! Is there a good day or time? Also, do you hire research assistants with a bachelor's to work in the lab?
Thanks for your interest in our research at the Museum. I would recommend you visit Friday through Tuesday, as that is when we have the most citizen-scientists available to enroll people into our study. It is free with Museum admission, and we are located at the back of Expedition Health on the second level of the Museum. Enrolling will give you the behind the scenes access to the research and one-on-one time with one of our volunteer citizen scientists so you can learn more. If you have family here, we recommend that you enroll together as family data is very valuable for us in the genetics work.
The current study on the taste of bitter will go until August 4. Then we will close that study and prepare for our next study on the taste of fat (opening in the fall). Our study is almost exclusively run by volunteer citizen scientists as we are a community-based lab, so I do not hire research assistants. That said, the Museum is always looking for qualified persons in science, so I would encourage you to keep checking on the jobs page of the Museum’s website. Not to mention we have a great volunteer program that you might be interested in!
