Giant Bison on Display

One of the iconic specimens pulled from the Ice Age fossil site will be on display during the holidays on the Level 2 bridge near the indoor entrance to Phipps IMAX Theater. The giant Ice Age bison (Bison latifrons) is an unusual discovery at 9,000 feet, especially since these fossils are typically associated with animals that prefer forested environments rather than grasslands. The horn core spread of this Bison latifrons is particularly a sight to see because this bison's horn spread is more than seven feet wide compared to about two and a half feet for modern bison!
