SCHEDULE A SESSION

To schedule an in-service or preservice session, group leaders must complete the Educator Training at DMNS Request Form at least one month prior to requested date.  These courses are typically offered M-F, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

 

EDUCATOR IN-SERVICE PROGRAM

What is an educator in-service?
Educator in-services are professional development sessions arranged by the Museum's education staff upon request. They are designed to inform and prepare educators to effectively use Museum resources to enhance student learning.

Who can schedule an in-service? 
Any professional education organization, preK-12 school staff, or group of educators seeking professional development related to the effective use of Museum resources.

The Museum offers several options for educator in-services:

1. In-service Introduction to Denver Museum of Nature & Science (45 minutes) includes:

  • Basic Museum admission for the day
  • Resource packets for participants
  • Introduction to Museum education resources
  • School program activity or online education activity

 

2. General Educator In-service (choose from 3 options)
Option A (2 hours) includes:

  • Basic Museum admission for the day
  • Resource packets for participants
  • Introduction to Museum education resources
  • Visit to permanent exhibition using an Exhibit Activity Guide (North American Indian Cultures, Prehistoric Journey, or North American Wildlife Hall) or a visit to Space Odyssey or Expedition Health
  • Hands-on activities and reflective discussions that meet specific goals outlined in your Request Form

Option A plus IMAX or Planetarium (up to 3 hours) includes

  • Basic Museum admission for the day
  • Resource packets for participants
  • Introduction to Museum education resources
  • Visit to permanent exhibition visit using an Exhibit Activity Guide (same selections as in Option A)
    OR
  • Hands-on activities and reflective discussions that meet specific goals outlined in your Request Form
  • IMAX or Planetarium Show

Option B (3 hours) includes

  • Basic Museum admission for the day
  • Resource packets for participants
  • Introduction to Museum education resources
  • Visit to permanent exhibition using an Exhibit Activity Guide (same selections as in Option A)
    OR
  • Hands-on activities and reflective discussions that meet specific goals outlined in your Request Form
  • Lecture by a science content specialist

 

How much does an in-service cost?
Fees vary depending upon the option selected and the number of participants.

At this time, educator in-services for groups larger than 40 are not offered by the Museum. However, you may reserve meeting space for 41+ groups through our Catering Department at 303.370.6400 and Museum programming may be added to this option.

*Please note that scheduling for in-service and preservice sessions are contingent upon staff and space availability.

Once your Request Form has been received, a Museum representative will contact you to confirm your request.

 


FAQ

When and how do you schedule an in-service or preservice session?
Group leaders must complete the Educator Training at DMNS Request Form at least one month prior to requested date.

When and how do you pay for an in-service or preservice teacher visit?
Payment is accepted by check or credit card. Payment must be received prior to the program. You can pay in advance by following the instructions on your confirmation letter. You can also pay the day of the session by arriving at least 15 minutes prior to your program and making the payment at the Member Services Desk in the main lobby. You will need your confirmation number. You will not be able to make any changes to your schedule the day of your session, such as adding IMAX tickets.

Are food and beverages available?
Yes. Arrangements for food and/or beverages can be made by noting a catering interest on your Educator Training at DMNS Request Form. The Museum's Catering Services will then contact you to arrange food and beverage service. There are additional costs associated with this service. Catering requests must be made at least 15 business days prior to the event. The Museum does not allow groups to bring in their own food and beverages.

Can we visit a temporary exhibition?
Yes, however the costs outlined above do not include admission for temporary exhibitions. Please note this interest on your request form and a Museum representative will contact you with pricing and ticketing information.
