Field Trip FAQ

WHY IS A RESERVATION NECESSARY?

To ensure a quality experience for all our visitors, the Museum has a daily group capacity. Also, our Facilitated Programs have a capacity per time slot. Your reservation ensures your group has access to the Museum.

ARE THERE SPECIAL DISCOUNTS OR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SCHOOLS?

With a reservation, schools, organized youth groups, and home school groups bringing a minimum of 10 students receive special pricing for admission, programming, and exhibitions. Scholarship funding will be provided only to those participants who have advance reservations; additional individuals are subject to full price. Click here to read about scholarships and the Bus Fuel Fund for eligible schools.

WHEN ARE SCHOOL AND YOUTH GROUP FIELD TRIPS OFFERED?

  • Field trips may be scheduled year-round, with the exception of SCFD Community Free Days
  • Classes and labs are offered September - May, Monday - Friday only, unless otherwise noted.
  • Details about when other programs are offered are listed on each program page.
  • Due to capacity limits, your requested field trip date(s) and/or programs may be sold out.

HOW WILL I KNOW OUR FIELD TRIP IS SCHEDULED?

  • We will mail you a reservation confirmation and e-mail important logistics, and tips for a successful field trip. Please read and use these materials to prepare your group effectively. You may also download them by clicking here.
  • If you do not receive a confirmation, please call 303.370.6000 or e-mail DMNSReservations@dmns.org.

GROUPS OF 200 OR MORE STUDENTS?

  • If you are planning to bring a large group (200+), please call Reservations at 303.370.6000.
  • Designate a chaperone to handle logistics, scheduling, and disciplinary issues that may arise. This adult will not chaperone the students but will serve as a floater to help the visit run smoothly for the entire group. This chaperone must be available onsite and provide a cell phone number to the Museum in case he or she needs to be reached during the visit.

WHAT IF I MUST CHANGE OR CANCEL A RESERVATION?

  • Please immediately call 303.370.6000 or e-mail DMNSReservations@dmns.org and include your confirmation number, necessary changes, and contact information. Please understand that we may be unable to accommodate changes.

WHEN AND HOW DO I PAY?

  • Payment is due upon arrival and check-in at the Museum.
  • Final cost depends on the number in your group upon arrival. No refunds are available once payment is made.
  • Please submit one payment for the entire group with large bills, or make checks payable to Denver Museum of Nature & Science. You may also pay by credit card using Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.
  • No advance payments, special billing arrangements, purchase orders, or multiple payments are allowed.

Distance Learning FAQ

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED TO PARTICIPATE IN A DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM?

Typically this virtual connection requires IP video-conferencing equipment. If you do not have video conference hardware, we can connect most classrooms with a software solution that you can download to a computer. You will then need to have a webcam and microphone.

HOW CAN I PREPARE MY STUDENTS FOR THIS EXPERIENCE?

For Scientists in Action programs, you will receive an e-mail directing you to a short video that will introduce your students to the scientist and science featured in their virtual program.

For the virtual classes, we will e-mail you class materials, including a journal the kids will use during the program.

DO YOU OFFER BILINGUAL SUPPORT?

Yes, we do offer Spanish language support for our Virtual Classes. Please request a bilingual educator through your reservationist.

We proudly recognize our donors for their generous support of the Museum and its education programs.
