Strategic Plan Update

We’re on a mission to nurture the enduring spirit of curiosity that lives in us all. We have this big idea that when the community links arms with us to co-create the future of its Museum, we can connect with everyone, everywhere.

The Everyone, Everywhere strategic plan includes several initiatives to make nature and science learning experiences accessible and fun! These projects are designed to reach people both in the Museum's building and outside of our walls where people live, work, play and learn.

Equity

Your Museum aims to increase diversity, equity, access and inclusion for staff and guests. This impacts everything we do, and every single employee is engaged in this work as part of their job. We strive to be a diverse and collaborative team—a team of people from different backgrounds, identities and experiences who are open to being inspired, challenged and changed by one another. Each of us spends time on education, collaboration and change-making on individual, departmental and museum-wide efforts. We invite you to join us in this ongoing work to make the Museum a place where all are respected and welcomed. Email [email protected] with questions or feedback.

Future First

With the help of our community, Future First will transform 20,000 square feet in the heart of the Museum’s first floor, revitalizing three of our oldest wings and activating the building’s last large undeveloped space. The project will be split into two phases. Phase 1 focuses on reimagining the Gems and Minerals experience. For more details visit dmns.org/futurefirst.

Nearby Nature

Your Museum, in partnership with Denver Parks & Recreation, will transform four acres of City Park into a multi-sensory and highly physical learning experience. Nature Play is designed for exploration and play that is self-directed, community centered and intergenerational. The project will restore a historic waterway while providing urban access to natural spaces focused on supporting and encouraging the whole person—emotionally, mentally and physically. The concept and design were co-created with community during the past five years. Construction will begin in early 2023. To stay in the know, email [email protected] or visit dmns.org/natureplay.

In the Community

Imagination needs a home everywhere, from mountain tops to shopping malls. We built this initiative on the idea that exploration and discovery can happen anywhere. This is why you’ll find us at Cherry Creek Shopping Center, Colorado Mills, online and occasionally taking people on archeological digs in Golden.

The Institute for Science & Policy

The Institute for Science & Policy continues diving into some of Colorado’s most pressing challenges. Recently, we held a two-part convening series on Navigating Misinformation in Our Communities in partnership with the Colorado News Collaborative and Colorado State University. Participants created discussion guides that they can use to have conversations in their communities. Upcoming work will take a closer look at the pressure on water under a changing climate and growing population, including a convening and a new season of the podcast, asking the questions, “In the hotter, drier American West, what is the cost of securing our most essential natural resource? And, who gets to decide?”

Museum on Wheels

We are bringing all-new nature and science experiences to both schools and the community through two different-sized vehicles with unique programming: The Curiosity Cruiser and The Time Hopper.

Curiosity Cruiser

The Curiosity Cruiser is a custom trailer that connects adults and families with nature and science. The Cruiser is on the road and popping up at events across the Metro Denver area. Guests on the cruiser use their curiosity and the scientific process to make discoveries about themselves and the world around them. We are excited to be on the road again! Since relaunching in June, we have been to 23 events and served more than 6,300 people.

Visit dmns.org/curiositycruiser to track where the Cruiser is going next and to book the Curiosity Cruiser for your next block party, festival or office event.

Time Hopper

The Time Hopper will be an expandable RV themed as a time machine that challenges students and families to imagine their future through a technology-rich and highly dynamic experience. It will primarily serve schools throughout Colorado. The team completed the design phase of this project in 2020 and are evaluating next steps for the project.
