Letter from the President

Dear members,

In this issue, we celebrate 50 years of our membership program. I’m humbled by the many ways you show your support—from visits and posting your #Museumselfies to donations and words of feedback and encouragement. As a science-based organization, the data shows we truly have the best members!

I invite you to dive in and enjoy stories of how membership support helps your museum connect with the community, offering fun and relevant experiences for more than a million people every year. In the Featured Exhibition section, get a glimpse of our newest traveling exhibition “Apollo: When We Went to the Moon.” Be sure to see the Museum Insider section for some history and an exciting look at what our membership program has in store for you. We’ll take you into our digital imaging lab where Lindsay Dougan, Eldon Panigot and several interns create 3D models from resin of fossils from our collection to help tell rich discovery stories and collaborate with scientists, artists and students around the world on their research in the Museum Treasures feature. And finally, don't miss the Discover Science section where Curator of Archaeology Erin Baxter and Collections Conservator Megan Salas share highlights from their recent trip to Egypt to study Fayum paintings, naturalistic paintings of people’s faces that would be attached to their mummies when they passed away, at the Cairo Museum.

While we’re only able to highlight a small portion of the world-class exhibitions, research and programs in the pages of “Catalyst,” the impact of your membership support stretches far beyond the limits of these pages. We are deeply grateful to you and look forward to continuing to serve you through our membership program during this golden anniversary year and for many more to come!

Thank you for your support,
