Program Description

Led by educator & author Pat Brown, Explore Before Explain is a one-stop professional development that will inspire you to reimagine how you teach. This session shows how simple shifts in the way you arrange and combine activities will help students construct knowledge, while allowing you to prepare for the revised Colorado Science Standards and put them into practice. 

(No prerequisite course required. Educators who took Part 1 in a previous summer can take this for credit also.) 

Dates and Times:

Thursday and Friday, June 24 & 25 from 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
Saturday, September 25 from 9 a.m.–noon

About the Instructor

Patrick Brown, PhD, is the Executive Director of STEM and Career Education for the Fort Zumwalt School District in O’Fallon, Missouri. He has a range of educational experiences and has taught elementary, middle and high school science classes as well as undergraduate and graduate courses for teachers. Dr. Brown has received awards for his methods course teaching such as the Lambda Chi Alpha Professor of the Year and the Excellence in Teaching Award from the College of Education at the University of Missouri–Columbia. His area of research deals with strategies for enhancing science literacy and teacher professional development. He has several publications that appear as journal articles, book chapters, and books and he has given many presentations at the regional, national, and international level.


Cost:  $300 (includes 2.0 graduate level credits) and all materials 

Credit: 2.0 Graduate level relicensure credits available through Colorado School of Mines 


All programs require payment at time of registration. All sales are final unless the Museum cancels the event.
