Online Course: Explore Before Explain: A Practical and Fun Approach Towards NGSS

Program Description

Take your learning online this summer. Get ready for the new science standards with ways to sequence instruction that promotes long-lasting understanding for your students by learning how to use a simple yet powerful approach:  Explore Before Explain. This course shows you how simple shifts in the way you arrange and combine activities will help students construct knowledge, while allowing you to prepare for the revised Colorado Science Standards and put them into practice.

About the Instructor

Patrick Brown, PhD, is the Executive Director of STEM and Career Education for the Fort Zumwalt School District in O’Fallon, Missouri. He has a range of educational experiences and has taught elementary, middle and high school science classes as well as undergraduate and graduate courses for teachers. Dr. Brown has received awards for his methods course teaching such as the Lambda Chi Alpha Professor of the Year and the Excellence in Teaching Award from the College of Education at the University of Missouri–Columbia. His area of research deals with strategies for enhancing science literacy and teacher professional development. He has several publications that appear as journal articles, book chapters, and books and he has given many presentations at the regional, national, and international level.

Credit option:  additional $35  (0.5 credits)

Special Requirements

Children cannot be accommodated in Teachers Professional Development Programs; no exceptions. Participants who arrive with children will not be admitted to the program.
