DENVER MUSEUM OF NATURE & SCIENCE EARNS TOURISM STAR AWARD
Museum recognized for temporary exhibitions, new addition
DENVER—March 20, 2014—The Denver Museum of Nature & Science received a Tourism Star Award during the Denver and Colorado Tourism Industry Hall of Fame dinner on March 20. The award is presented to organizations, attractions, and individuals that had a significant impact on Denver’s tourism industry during the preceding year.
“Our success is really a collective success,” said Bridget Coughlin, vice president of strategic partnerships and programs. “Our 28 trustees, 474 staff members, and 1,777 volunteers should all be proud to share in this success, not to mention the support the Museum and many of the other cultural institutions in and around Denver receive from the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District that allows us to continually expand our offerings and outreach.”
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science received the award for its 2013 temporary exhibitions, Mammoths & Mastadons: Titans of the Ice Age and MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition, as well as its 126,000-square-foot Morgridge Family Exploration Center addition, which opened on February 14.
“There are always a number of people and organizations that step up and make outstanding contributions to our industry, but 2013 was an exceptional year,” said Richard Scharf, president and CEO of VISIT DENVER.
In 2013, the Museum welcomed more than 1.3 million visitors, 20 percent of whom came from out of state.
Other Tourism Star Award winners included the Denver Center for Performing Arts/Denver Center Attractions/Denver Center Theatre Company and the Denver Art Museum. Hall of Fame inductees were Epicurean Group CEO and Founder Larry DiPasquale, Denver March Powwow Executive Director Grace Gillette, Colorado Rockies Owner Dick Monfort, and Director of the Greenway Foundation Jeff Shoemaker with a special posthumous award to his father, Greenway Foundation Founder Joe Shoemaker.
