DENVER—May 6 - For the first time, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the region’s leading resource for informal science education, will play host to the Denver Mini Maker Faire, June 13 and 14, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Via exhibits, demonstrations and activities, the two-day, interactive event will showcase the creativity and ingenuity of Colorado makers, crafters, artists, tinkerers and inventors in science, technology, design and sustainability. Maker Faires are multigenerational gatherings that have become a sensation across the United States and the world.

“Because the Museum is committed to a hands-on approach to science education and innovation, we are pleased to partner with Colorado Maker Hub to present the Denver Mini Maker Faire” said George Sparks, President and CEO of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. “Hosting this event is an incredibly dynamic opportunity for us to spark the natural curiosities of all ages in our community.”

More than 100 exhibits and activities will be staged both inside and outside the Museum. This year’s highlights include:

• Make music at the “Science of Music” exhibit, where you can build your own instruments and participate in a synthesizer petting zoo
• Experiment and create electrifying art with SparkFun’s “Paint with Code”electrically conductive paint and Liteseeds LED stickers
• Build an art car with the “Cartists” from Trinidad’s ArtoCade and take a ride on kinetic sculptures
• Become a mad scientist and participate in experiments with the National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Center for Atmospheric Research and the Denver Mad Scientists
• Create whatever you can imagine at the Cardboard Challenge or at Denver Public Library’s Toy Hack
• Drive a robot or fly a quadcopter
• Check out urban art, Steampunk creations and more
• Chat with R2-D2 from “Star Wars”
• Try your hand at pottery, blacksmithing and welding, and experiment with tools of all kinds

Denver Maker Faire and the National Week of Making
The Denver Mini Maker Faire will coincide with the national Week of Making, established by the Obama Administration to mark the one-year anniversary of last year’s White House Maker Faire. The Week of Making is scheduled for June 12-18 to coincide with the National Maker Faire in Washington, D.C. “Today’s DIY is tomorrow’s Made in America,” said President Obama in support of the maker movement.

About the Denver Mini Maker Faire
The Denver Mini Maker Faire is an offshoot of the celebrated Maker Faire (www.makerfaire.com) created in the San Francisco Bay area, which draws 100,000 annually from all around the world for “The Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth!” The Denver Mini Maker Faire is generously supported by presenting sponsors SparkFun Electronics and “Make” magazine. The Denver Mini Maker Faire is independently produced by the Colorado Maker Hub 501(c) 3 in collaboration with Maker Media.

General admission to the Museum is included in the 2015 Denver Mini Maker Faire event ticket. The event will be held inside and outside the Museum, rain or shine. Free parking is available and alternative transportation is encouraged.
