DECEMBER EVENTS

Hope for Coral Reefs

Wednesday, December 4, 7 p.m., $12 member, $15 nonmember

The world’s 110,000 square miles of coral reefs are so much more than just one of nature’s profound beauties; they are home to 25 percent of all marine species, provide coastal protection, and, unexpectedly, are the source of unique chemical compounds with anti-cancer properties. Coral reefs face a variety of threats, including pollution, overfishing, coastal development, and climate change. As lead scientist for coral reef conservation for The Nature Conservancy, Stephanie Wear has worked on the front lines, leading efforts to identify new approaches to solving the coral reef crisis, and taking her to some unlikely places. Hear what Wear has learned along the way as she shares the secret to coral reef conservation and how we have a lot more in common with coral reefs than we previously thought. Following the lecture, enjoy cookies and coffee at a reception. Cosponsored with The Nature Conservancy Colorado.
