Diamond in kimberlite rock

Spewed up to the surface by a supervolcano that punctured South Africa, this ugly green rock contains minerals formed only under high temperature and pressure conditions, including diamonds! This ultra-rare specimen, shown in its native state, was donated by Museum volunteer Paul Seel.
