Colorado State Gemstone: Aquamarine

Captivating crystals

The collectors who pulled this specimen from a mineral-studded pocket atop Mount Antero, Colorado, hit a geologic jackpot. This six-centimeter-long aquamarine crystal was not only a deep aqua, but it was studded with a boutonniere of purple fluorite. Donated to the Museum by Marge Regel in 1997, it is one of the most unique aquamarines ever collected.
