You’ve heard about our latest sold-out laser shows at the Museum of Nature & Science in Denver but haven’t yet bought your tickets. I get it. Some of you are just as confused as I was. I was born in 1989, so I had no recollection of ever going to or hearing about “laser shows”...What are they?
If this sounds like you, you can thank me later. I’ve created this quick blog to explain exactly what laser shows are and what to expect.
If you’re into the latest ’80s and ’90s trends, this is something you need to experience at least once. For a limited time, laser shows, presented by Laser Fantasy, have returned to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, from August to Winter 2022 inside the Planetarium.

What are Laser Shows?
Think of it as going to the movie theater. You’ll form a line outside of our Planetarium, go inside this dark room and take a seat. Then, the show begins above you. Look up!
A laser show uses projected laser beans to entertain you – they bounce around, change colors, create shapes and flash fast and often. It’s like watching your computer’s screen saver swirling to the beat of music or a specific theme, like a concert, a TV series or a genre. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
What kind of shows and themes can I expect?
From pop stars to TV series, you can rock out to your favorite music or shows as you take in a stunning and unique visual light show. Other popular shows we have are Lady Gaga, Daft Punk, Beastie Boy, The Dark Side of the Moon and Beyonce.
How long are the shows and what dates?
The shows vary in time between 45-55 minutes depending on which you choose. Our daily shows begin at 4:15 p.m., but on Fridays we offer evening hours, 5:30 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 8 p.m.
What is the most popular show, and why?
Right now, our most popular show (often sold out in minutes!) is Stranger Things, based on this award-winning Netflix Original series and of the streamer’s biggest hits. This 1980s-inspired sci-fi series has earned more than 60 awards and has been nominated more than 200 times. It’s no surprise fans are flocking to the Museum to watch this laser show.
If you see tickets available for a show you’d like to see, make sure you get your tickets as soon as possible as shows sell out within minutes.
What new shows are coming soon?
We’re looking at more Stranger Things and Halloween-themed shows to come in late October. Shows will happen through December, but the schedule has not been fully released. Check here for new shows and showtimes.
Are Laser shows safe for everyone?
Some shows may contain explicit language and images that could trigger adults and children. Laser and fast-changing strobe lights and fog machines are used throughout each showing of Laser Fantasy.
Laser shows provided by Laser Fantasy are recommended for ages 8 and up. Due to the environment, parents should use discretion when bringing children to these shows. The Museum offers kid- and adult-size noise-reducing headphones in the planetarium for Laser Shows. Ushers will provide headphones upon request before you enter the theater.
If you have any medical concerns or medical conditions, please consult your doctor before attending a show. For questions about specific shows, please check out the setlist or call the Museum’s guest services team at 303.370.6000.
Do I need separate tickets, buy them in advance?
Yes. Laser shows require an additional ticket besides general admission or membership. We recommend purchasing them online in advance as many shows have sold out. Buy tickets here.
