The Museum is having an incredible summer season of science and fun in our building and online, and we hope the same is true for you. You may have seen that we recently launched DMNS OnDemand to capture all the action in one place on our YouTube Channel. I hope you’ll return again and again for inspiration.

We welcomed hundreds of campers for our summer camp season and 21 Teen Science Scholars to work alongside our scientists and collections managers on a number of research projects—from an insects of City Park analysis to replicating ancient sandal designs. In addition to mentoring future scholars, our scientists have been busy naming several news species and returning to the field. Senior Curator of Entomology Frank-Thorsten Krell identified a new species of prehistoric frog-legged leaf beetle (see Discover Science), and Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology Tyler Lyson named two new turtle species within the past few months. I invite you to head over to Instagram to step into Curator of Archaeology Michele Koon’s community archaeology project at the historic Astor House in Golden, Colorado.

And finally, we invite you to our next temporary exhibition, “Survival of the Slowest,” where you’ll explore dozens of habitats teeming with live animals such as a two-toed sloth, a green iguana, a spur-thighed tortoise, a hedgehog and several other species to find out why being slow has its advantages. The Featured Exhibition section has more about the exhibition, along with a chance to meet exhibition experts and the featured creatures for you.
