Use of DMNS images, scans, audio, and video materials for publication, commercial use, or distribution requires written permission and licensing from the Archives. Licensing fees apply in addition to any digitization and duplication fees. Please be aware that some content may not be available for commercial use due to contractual and other restrictions. Waivers for licensing fees for non-profit and scholarly projects may be granted at the Archives’ discretion. To request licensing authorization, fill out the Image Licensing Request Form. Your fees help support the Museum’s mission and continued preservation efforts.
Usage Fees per Image: This fee is waived if the project meets the conditions for a non-profit or scholarly endeavor.
One-time editorial use (textbook, exhibition, catalog, magazine, documentary film, video, etc): $100
One-time non-editorial use (cover, book jacket, album cover, etc): $100
Special media use (commercial motion picture, television, on-line, videotape, etc): $250
Special media use plus advertising, download to own, festivals, worldwide distribution. Permission is discretionary and subject to additional fees that will be separately negotiated: $250+
The DMNS collections are obtained from many sources and are intended primarily for research and educational purposes. Certain works may be protected by copyright, trademark, or related interests not governed by the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Permission for use will be granted only to the extent of the Museum’s ownership of the rights relating to your request. The responsibility for ascertaining whether any additional rights exist, and for obtaining all necessary permissions, remains with the researcher.
