In partnership with Mexican Cultural Center, Museum will host SCFD Community Free Day celebrating all children.
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is partnering with the Mexican Cultural Center and the Consulate General of Mexico in Denver to host a Dia del Nino celebration for its SCFD Community Free Day on April 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to free general admission for all visitors, the celebration will include music and dance performances by Los Chinelos, Mexico Mixto, Danza Guadalupana Matachina, Escuela Guadalupe and Cleo Parker Robinson Dance; face painting; crafts; a climbing wall; visits from Colorado sports mascots; a Museum-wide scavenger hunt; and story time in French with Alliance Française de Denver. The Denver Public Library’s bookmobile, The Reading Rocket, will be parked in front of the Museum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Dia del Nino grows in exciting ways each year, and it’s thrilling to see how the community embraces the celebration and helps to make it their own,” said George Sparks, president and CEO of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. “We hope we see another record-breaking year with an increased emphasis on creating an international celebration for children.”
Access to the temporary exhibition “Chocolate: The Exhibition” will be free, and special discounts on tickets for the temporary exhibition “Robot Revolution,” IMAX and Planetarium will be offered as part of the Museum’s Dia del Nino celebration.
Transportation and Parking
Limited free parking is available at the Museum, so alternative transportation is highly encouraged. Additional free parking will be available at East High School, 1600 City Park Esplanade. Free shuttle buses will run throughout the day between the Museum and the high school.
Opening Ceremony
An opening ceremony to kick off the Dia del Nino weekend will begin promptly at 9 a.m. on April 23. A parade of children, performers and Mr. Bones the paleo-puppeteer will lead guests into the Museum through the north entrance in honor of the weekend’s theme of “celebrating all children.”

Weekend Celebration
The Museum’s Dia del Nino SCFD Community Free Day is part of a weekend-long celebration, which drew more than 23,000 visitors last year making it the largest celebration of its kind in the Rocky Mountain region. Other participants throughout the weekend include the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art on Saturday, and the Denver Art Museum, History Colorado, Clyfford Still Museum, Denver Public Library and Byers Evans House Museum on Sunday.
