UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS

Opens March 12 - BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart
This all-new exhibition will reveal - through the lenses of anatomy, cardiology, psychology and culture - how the heart nourishes, regulates and sustains life.  The exhibition will give Museum visitors profound insight into the human body, health and disease, and the intricate world of the cardiovascular system.  The exhibition will awe visitors with more than 200 human specimens, including whole-body plastinates, organs and translucent body slices.

Coming February 19 - Arabia IMAX
Go behind the veil on a journey into the exotic world of Arabia and experience the culture, history and religion of this unfamiliar region of the world. Explore the ancient tombs of a lost city, dive into the shipwrecks of the Red Sea with underwater archaeologists, and experience the extraordinary pilgrimage known as the hajj-the largest gathering of people on Earth.

Coming March 19 - Hubble IMAX
Experience a gripping story full of hope, crushing disappointment, dazzling ingenuity, bravery and triumph. Hubble recounts the amazing journey of the Hubble Space Telescope, arguably the most important scientific instrument since Galileo's original telescope and the greatest success in space since the Moon landing. Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, Hubble will change the way you see the universe.

Parent-Child Workshop - Lions, Tigers, and Cheetahs, Oh My!
Saturday, March 6 from 9-10:30 a.m. - $20 per member pair, $25 per nonmember pair
The world's great cats inhabit an array of locations around the world, including the Congo, Calcutta and Colorado.  You'll have a fun-filled morning investigating these ferocious felines.  Age 3 plus adult.

Children's Workshop - BRRR!  It's Cold!
Saturday, March 6 from 1-3 p.m. - $60 for members, $70 for nonmembers
How do animals keep warm in the bitter cold of winter?  Learn all about the special ways an animal stays toasty from its nose to its toes and create a fun winter craft.  Ages 4 and 5.

Children's Workshop - Introduction to Survival
Saturday, March 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. - $60 for members, $70 for nonmembers
Live the life of a hunter-gatherer.  Learn how ancient peoples survived before central heating and microwave ovens.  Master the nomad's guide to survival and build your own model shelter.  Grades 4 - 6.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour - Image Archives and Collections Photography
Tuesday, March 16 at 6 p.m. - $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers
Develop your own photography skills under the direction of Museum photographer Rick Wicker.  Watch him in action as he manages to capture dioramas without glare and experiment with your own camera.  Image archivist René Payne provides a tour of the Museum's precious collection of vintage photographs and insight into photo preservation.

The Science Lounge: Arabian Nights
Thursday, March 18 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Enjoy a mind-expanding experience with cocktails and entertainment every third Thursday of the month.  Ages 21 and up.  This month, take a trip to an exotic and fascinating land during an evening showing of the IMAX film Arabia.  Enjoy drinks, live music, a fashion show of Middle Eastern traditional dress, and get a henna tattoo. Converse with cultural experts who will answer your questions about a society and way of life often hidden from view.

Children's Workshop - Gee-ology
Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. - $60 for members, $70 for nonmembers
Travel to the earth's core and uncover the globe's deepest secrets.  Start your very own rock collection and watch a volcano blow its top.  Grades K and 1.

Children's Workshop - Junior Surgeons: Dissect-athon
Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. - $60 for members, $70 for nonmembers
Chop open a chicken's wing, segment a sheep's heart and lungs, and carve into a cow's eye as you gather information about the inner workings of your own incredible body.  Grades 2 and 3.

Parent-Child Workshop - Down Under
Saturday, March 20 from 9-10:30 a.m. - $20 per member pair, $25 per nonmember pair
Hop, don't walk!  Grab your joey and join us on a trip down under to learn about the fascinating creatures and cultures of Australia.

BODY WORLDS -Young Professionals Soiree
Wednesday, March 24 from 6-9 p.m. - $50 for members, $55 for nonmembers
Gain exclusive access to BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart plus enjoy beer, wine, and appetizers and connect with other young professionals.

BODY WORLDS - Life After Death: The Journey of the Body
Thursday, March 25 at 7 p.m. - $8 for members, $10 for nonmembers
Take a behind-the-scenes look at BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart.  Learn how these famous human specimens are preserved once their hearts stop beating.  Delve deep into the legal and ethical issues surrounding body donation and discover how museum visitors can partake in this captivating process.
