Thursday, April 27

7:30pm

Gates Concert Hall at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts (University of Denver)

$38 Adults | $22 Children 12 & Under

The Earth’s deadliest animal venoms are a source of a number of lifesaving medicines used to treat everything from heart attacks to diabetes. Yet there are millions of venom toxins in nature that remain unexplored. Biomedical scientist and inventor Zoltan Takacs collects snake, scorpion, jellyfish, and other venoms from around the world. In his mission, he survived charging elephants, pirated waters, plus a series of snake bites and venom spit in his face-- all his faults he admits! Back in the lab, using cutting-edge genomics, he creates combinatorial venom libraries to identify leads for novel medicines. The unique blueprint of venoms could be harnessed to design medicines that heal the very same life functions they usually target, from cardiovascular diseases, to cancer, and beyond.

Presented in partnership with the Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver.

Be inspired by women in science!

Girls & Science knows that if girls can see it, they can dream it and BE it! Girls & Science helps to connect girls with women mentors in STEAM careers to then allow girls to ask questions, get inspired, and explore the many diverse opportunities a future career in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math can bring!

There is still plenty of opportunity to engage with Girls & Science!

CBS Colorado will host a Girls & Science Community Conversation that will feature our Girls & Science STEM Mentors and participants from Girls Inc. of Metro Denver.
The Community Conversation will air on CBS News Colorado on Thursday, March 16th at 7pm.

Girls thINC Outside the Box helps to bring the experience home, recognizing girls' power to be leaders of their own learning, exploration, and practice.
Learn more and sign up for your Girls thINC Outside the Box here!

The ninth annual Girls & Science event is hosted by the Museum, CBS Colorado, and Girls Inc. of Metro Denver.
