The Living River: Field Science & Climate Literacy on Colorado Waters

Field Course for PreK-12 educators, and their adult friends and family members age 12 and older

Embark on a transformative three-day, two-night river adventure designed to rejuvenate your spirit while grounding your teaching in Colorado’s living landscapes! Guided by the expert navigators at Centennial Canoe Outfitters who handle all logistics and prepare delicious riverside meals, participants will paddle through vibrant river corridors, camping under the stars along the water's edge. Facilitated by a respected Master Naturalist and a Museum educator, this field course immerses PreK–12 educators and their adult guests in hands-on citizen science projects exploring river ecosystems and climate change, all anchored to Colorado’s Seal of Climate Literacy Framework. With the specific river stretch to be selected based on Summer 2027 permitting parameters and seasonal water levels, this course will offer the perfect mix of authentic environmental learning and a much-deserved opportunity to unplug, float, and reconnect with nature.

This course will provide 1.5 graduate credits for educators who want them. Check back soon for more information on this credit earning opportunity. Participants seeking graduate credit must attend a half day virtual training on June 12th. Additional fees will be required for those seeking graduate credit.
